What You’ll Do
Big band ensembles no longer roam the earth like they did in the 1930s, yet the Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra successfully packs the house every week. The 17-piece ensemble—much like its venue—is a part of a rich musical tradition packed with history and future potential. During this tour and concert, bandleader and saxophonist Brad Linde walks your group through Bohemian Caverns while leading a nuanced discussion on the club’s background, as a well as the history of jazz in DC. The experience ends with a performance of big band standards and new music from Linde’s group.
Peek Behind the Curtain
Before the doors open to the public, musician Brad Linde gives an intimate tour of Bohemian Caverns, a jazz club with nearly 90 years of music history.
Discuss Jazz, Big Band, and DC
Linde, an experience educator, leads a thoughtful conversation that dives into the legacy of big bands, the club’s importance, and jazz music in general.
Listen to the Music
The Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra builds on its legacy with a 75-minute concert of jazz, big band standards, and new music from the band members.
Founder, Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra
While other kids pictured themselves as firemen and astronauts, Brad Linde grew up wanting to be a jazz musician and teacher. Today, as the founder and co-director of Bohemian Caverns, he gets to fulfill both dreams. His swinging and speaking skills have also led him to endeavors outside of the club: he’s curated a jazz series at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, and lectured at venues such as the Smithsonian, Strathmore, and various college campuses.
