Iron Boy XVIII
The historic Celebrity Theatre will shake to life yet again on December 20—only this time, it won’t be from roaring guitar solos, but from bone-jarring body blows. That evening, Iron Boy XVIII will close out the year with a showcase of top boxing prospects and local fan favorites. Andy “Destroyer” Ruiz (23–0, 17 KOs) will headline the stacked card in a heavyweight slugfest against Phoenix resident Sergei Liakhovich (26–6, 16 KOs). Ruiz is a force to be reckoned with; in his last fight, he knocked out his opponent in the first round, well before either fighter had even finished drinking his coffee.
Beyond the thrills of the main event, the rest of the card will be just as impressive. It features NABF Junior Super Featherweight champion and two-time Mexican Olympian Oscar Valdez (13–0, 12 KOs), as well as Francisco De Vaca, who will be taking part in just his ninth professional fight. For the evening, fans are encouraged to bring a toy for the US Marines’ “Toys for Tots” program, as all who donate will be entered to win all-access passes and a glove signed by all the Iron Boy XVIII fighters.
Celebrity Theatre's distinctive in-the-round construction keeps show-goers close to the action, with no seat more than 70 feet from the performers. The slowly rotating stage ensures each audience member can bask in singers' flashing smiles and search the backs of their heads for bonus flashing smiles.
