When a major professional basketball team forms a new dance squad for their halftime show, they do so with an innovative twist: every member has to be over 60. Once the team is formed, however, the dancers run into problems when they find out they have to perform hip-hop, the one genre of dance in which nobody has any experience. A classic underdog tale—and based on a true story, to boot—Gotta Dance follows this unlikely group of heroes as they battle prejudice, self-doubt, and each other to wow sports fans around the world and prove that age ain’t nothing but a number.
Tony-winning choreographer and director Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, On Your Feet) returns to Chicago to helm the production before it heads to the Great White Way. The show features a slew of other Broadway veterans as well (some of whom happen to be TV legends, too), especially in its cast. Tony nominee André De Shields (The Full Monty, The Wiz) and Mary Tyler Moore star Georgia Engel lead the ensemble, which also includes Lillias White (Tony winner, The Life), Stefanie Powers (Hart to Hart), and Lori Tan Chinn (Orange is the New Black).
