IndieCade: The International Festival of Independent Games 2014

The Games

  • Atlantis: Up to 50 players on a single screen use their smartphones as controllers as they loot and pillage the sunken city in a series of mini games.
  • Bloom: An interactive architectural installation uses game mechanics to crowd-source the assembly of a Bloom Cell—a pink, amorphous formation of roughly 60,000 identical pieces.
  • Joe Denver’s Lone Wolf: This RPG based on the fantasy series of the ’80s and ’90s uses the structure of an interactive gamebook, complete with animated illustrations and a 3-D combat system.

The Panels (included with all-access badge)

  • Basic Programming in Under an Hour: Learn to create your own video game using software from Unity and the knowledge of speaker Jeremy Gibson Bond.
  • Experimental Design and Artistic Play: Break away from the usual dystopias and sewer pipes with Cindy Poremba, who teaches the history and present of experimental gaming.
  • Business Basics for Indie Game Developers: Rami Ismail teaches participants how to use their game creations to make real money instead of digital rubies.

  • Alicia G: This LA-based singer combines an electrifying stage presence with a sultry blend of soul, rock, and blues.
  • The Milky Way: A two-woman duo, a DJ, and several other artists create cosmic beats in this electronic hip-hop act.
  • Disasterpeace: This one-man band weaves tone poems about monks and sailors with hazy piano strains.
