What You’ll Do
Jim Loewer’s glassblowing method easily falls into the category of things that should not be tried at home. With torches flaming and an oven glowing at thousands of degrees, his studio is one of the few places that could handle his art. But that doesn’t mean it’s a secret, and during this 1.5-hour demonstration Jim shows participants just what it takes to turn glass into a decorative ornament or vessel.
Watch a Master Work
Glasswork isn’t Jim’s only skill: he’ll demonstrate his knack for multi-tasking by answering questions from guests throughout the demo.
Mix and Mingle
Munch on snacks and use available mixers to create drinks—guests can bring along their own beer, wine, and liquor.
Bring Home a Souvenir…
All attendees will receive 25% off any purchases they make from the studio.
…Or Make a Night of It
The studio sits just a few short blocks from Italian Market, Center City, and East Passyunk Avenue, and Jim will be happy to provide dining and drink recommendations.
Jim Loewer initially considered paint his primary medium. But as a casual interest in glass art grew more serious, he swapped his brushes for a kiln and devoted himself to glassblowing full time. Today, Jim’s handcrafted glass housewares can be found in such outlets as Anthropologie, Uncommon Goods, and Barney’s New York, where his bowls were praised by the New York Times for their “eye-popping” impact and their “intense swirling colors.”
