Los Auténticos Decadentes

  • The early years: in 1986, singer Gustavo “Cucho” Parisi and guitarist Nito Montecchia tapped Gastón “Francés” Bernardou to start a ska-punk band in their native Buenos Aires—and soon their ranks numbered 13
  • What came next: ten years of carefree party music set to an upbeat reggae rhythm—most notably the tongue-in-cheek love song “Vení Raquel”
  • The breakthrough: 1996’s Mi Vida Loca, which set the tone of Argentina’s nightlife in such tunes as “La Guitarra,” “Corazón,” and “El Murguero”
  • What keeps them together: besides their lifelong friendship, they’ve developed a massive, multi-generational fanbase thanks to their widely diverse inspirations
  • Those inspirations: include reggae, surf rock, cumbia, murga, tarantella, and hanging out over beers
  • Their latest: Y La Banda Sigue, which earned a Latin Grammy nomination in 2015 and surprised Mariano Prunes at AllMusic with “not one but two tracks that extol the virtues of reading and studying as opposed to the Decadentes’ trademark penchant for slacking.”
