BLACK Vs. All, a #BLACKLIVESMATTER Musical
“When will it stop?”
“Will it stop?”
These questions beat in the chest of BLACK Vs. All, a musical steeped in the #BlackLivesMatter movement. That movement, founded by Patrisse Cullors, Opal Tometi, and Alicia Garza after the killing of Trayvon Martin—and uniting people across the country after the killing of Mike Brown—calls for direct action against anti-black racism. Since 2012 that action has meant country-wide protests and dialogues about institutionalized racism. But in BLACK Vs. All, action means music. A cappella songs weave throughout stirring monologues as the work examines America’s tumultuous history with racial oppression head-on, moving from slavery to the Jim Crow era and the present-day police brutality that echoes the race-based violence of the past.
