Piaf! Le Spectacle
Anne Carrere isn’t the legendary Edith Piaf, but don’t tell your ears. The chanteuse, whom the Times Square Chronicles called “as close as you can get to Piaf,” brings both the story and the music of “The Little Sparrow” to life in her intimate concert, calling to mind the bumpy streets of Montmarte, the sweetness of Paris at twilight, and the Frenchiness of French people. Carrere and her band, a musical ensemble of four, get some help from projections in creating their time-traveling effect, showing the audience candid images of Piaf herself, as well as English translations of her legendary songs, such as “La Vie en Rose,” “Je Ne Regrette Rien,” and “Padam, Padam.”
Past rows of seats covered in crimson, past a red carpet that brings out the auditorium's regality, past a centerpiece chandelier that dangles from the ceiling with the quiet grace of a toddler climbing out of her crib, is a stage. Upon this stage, the Zeiterion Theatre explores the performing arts, hosting national and international performers who enlighten the community to other cultures and inspire the younger population to actively participate in the arts. Every year, Zeiterion, lovingly known as "The Z," also provides 5,000 free tickets to children and families with low incomes, working to make arts more accessible to all.
