What You’ll Do
Eating Indian street food is about more than flavor—it’s about community. An integral part of the experience is the crowd of patrons that gathers around the chef’s stall to order and banter. To recreate the full experience, cooking instructor Sandhya brings this atmosphere to her kitchen island during a two-hour demonstration.
Custom-Made Indian Street Food
Sandhya prepares four savory snacks—each customized to every participant’s tastes—while chatting about street food. Dietary restrictions, including vegetarianism and veganism, can be accommodated.
Tea and Dessert
The meal includes a welcoming drink of tea and two grand-finale desserts: gulab jamun—a warm dumpling—and Indian ice cream.
Each guest goes home with a serving of one dish, along with sauces and garnishes.
Teaching vegetarian cooking in DC, Sandhya shares the wisdom she’s gleaned not only from her heritage, but from the unique places she’s lived abroad. Originally from India, Sandhya moved to a south-central Pacific island called Nauru, followed by London, and then across the US before settling in DC. A lifelong vegetarian, she lives and breathes food—when she’s not in the kitchen or enjoying her other hobbies, she shares her latest culinary inspirations and recipes on her blog, Vegetarianirvana.
