Nothing can match the thrill of seeing a concert in person, not even watching it on high-definition Blu-ray or listening to it on a high-definition parrot. Get out of your cage with today's GrouponLive deal to The Songs of Our Lives and the Writers Who Wrote Them featuring L. Russell Brown at West Nashville United Methodist Church. For $17, you get one general-admission ticket and an autograph from L. Russell Brown on Saturday, February 18, at 7 p.m. (a $34.45 value, including all fees). Doors open at 6 p.m.

During an evening’s celebration of masterful songwriting, five performers seated in a circle formation share their most successful compositions while guests bid on silent-auction items donated by local businesses. Within the historic sanctuary’s walls, headliner L. Russell Brown glides through cheery ditties such as "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree," which taught children how to properly gift-wrap bark, then follows up his performance with an autograph-signing session. Famed troubadour Roger Cook strums "I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing," a harmonious song made famous by a Coca Cola commercial in the early 1970s, and Larry Henley soars through the inspirational Bette Midler vehicle "Wind Beneath My Wings," which he co-wrote. Rafe Van Hoy helped pen the Tammy Wynette and George Jones duet "Golden Ring," and Kerry Kurt Phillips knits a giant sweater as he performs "I Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair." All proceeds from the event will go toward playground equipment, supplies, and start-up expenses for the Parents' Day Out program at the West Nashville United Methodist Church.
