The Roxy Theatre

Most bands know that they’ve made it if they’ve played the Roxy. A landmark of the Sunset Strip since 1973, the venue was practically born with rock ‘n’ roll integrity. It was founded by a dream team of California music moguls, including David Geffen, Peter Asher, and Lou Adler, and soon gained infamy as the place that pioneered the rock club ethos of the 1970s—hard-partying warts and all. The Roxy cemented its legendary status from day one, with events ranging from a christening gig by Neil Young to such highlights as the American premiere of The Rocky Horror Show, live album recordings by Springsteen, Zappa, and The Ramones, and the time that John Lennon and Harry Nilsson high-fived. Today, the hotspot still brings in the crowds with an intimate vibe and stellar acoustics, and continues to host the world’s biggest bands and most promising upcoming talent. <p>
