Ripe Conditions

Storms both literal and metaphorical threaten the uneasy peace between bumpkin brothers Buster and Lester in Claudia Allen's thigh-slapping comedy. Onetime rivals for the same girl's hand, the pair called a truce years ago when the beautiful Ann ran away with their younger brother, Abner, instead. Unfortunately, that was after Buster shot Lester and served time. Now, with the hatchet buried and the Ann-shaped hole in their hearts scarred over, they share a ramble-down shack in rural Michigan, a couple acres of beans, and a once-a-month bathing habit. But the radio reports ripe conditions for a tornado, and the recent death of Ann's brother suggests their long-dormant tensions may flare up again soon. Sure enough, a knock on the door reveals a freshly widowed Ann, followed closely by a whirlwind that traps the three together for the long haul.
