Mad Dog Theatre Company exclusively produces new work that is savage, wickedly funny, and ultimately poses challenging questions to the audience. In The Thrill of the Chase, the collective plunges theatergoers into the murky waters of friendship sapped from the pen of Philip Gawthorne, who was nominated for a New York Innovative Theatre Award for his play Modern Life Is Rubbish. Outfitted in the style of such theatrical trailblazers as David Mamet and Neil LaBute, the production uses realistic dialogue filled with starts, stops, and unplanned Elvis sightings as it weaves the complex story of two roommates, Charlie and Nicky. When Nicky’s decision to trade the bachelor lifestyle for marriage and new, hole-free socks offends Charlie, the pair’s bond quickly dissolves into a deviant wager that threatens not only their friendship but their lives. During matinee performances, attendees can accompany on-stage drama with sips of bloody marys or mimosas, whereas beer and wine offer to fuel exuberant applause throughout evening shows.
