Inside the intimate theater of the JCC, audience ears sway to the musical’s harmonies as protagonist Jon approaches his 30th birthday. Under the direction of Stephen Halpin, the tight cast chronicles Larson’s autobiography as a struggling artist in New York City during the years leading up to 1990. With songs such as “30/90” and “Boho Days,” Tick, Tick…Boom! tugs at the heartstrings of anyone who has feared failure, upheld artistic integrity, or had to brave a harsh winter by weaving blankets out of limp ramen noodles. This production presents an opportunity to witness the work of one of the 20th century’s last great American composer-playwrights, who tragically passed just before his magnum opus premiered on Broadway.
