Thirty stories below, the Kings Dominion amusement park—with its assortment of roller coasters, bumper cars, and water slides—sprawls among 400 acres. From this height, visitors are nearly eye-to-eye with the top of a 1/3-scale replica of the Eiffel Tower, yet there isn’t even a floor beneath them. Instead, their feet dangle from swings on the WindSeeker—a thrill ride suspended more than 300 feet from the ground.
The WindSeeker is only one of the most recent attractions at Kings Dominion, which since its construction in 1975 has steadily added both thrilling attractions and laid-back family activities. One of the park’s oldest attractions, Rebel Yell roller coaster lurches at speeds of up to 45 mph, and everything from a classic carousel to gas-powered antique cars keep families from arguing over which lucky sibling gets to ride in the trunk later. Other attractions include the dinosaur-themed attractions Dinosaurs Alive!, an outdoor forest populated by animatronic dinosaurs and Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia a new 3D film, narrated by Donald Sutherland, that combines CGI dinosaurs and live-action footage of a South American archeological dig. Kings Dominion also features a 20-acre water park where visitors cool off on twisting slides and a 650,000-gallon wave pool nearly as large as Louis XVI’s bathtub.
Kings Dominion boasts family entertainment ranging from thrill rides to kids' areas, a water park, and live entertainment. More than 17 roller coasters and high-speed attractions await groups, such as the all-new Delirium, a high-flying pendulum that swings up to 40 riders through the air 115 feet off the ground. A Peanuts themed kids' area entertains with Snoopy rides and discount psychiatric advice, while a 20-acre water park includes high-speed water slides, lazy rivers, and dual wave pools. Guests seeking to take a break can sit back to watch live entertainment, or prepare for zombie uprisings with the Kings Dominion annual Halloween Haunt.
