About Martial Arts Institute
Sensei Kevin Webb, the head instructor at Martial Arts Institute, holds a sixth-degree black belt in goju ryu karate and a fifth-degree black belt in Okinawan kobudo. These did not come easy, and Sensei Webb has been training to this advanced level since the early '80s. Now the senior student of his master, Hiroji Kuniyoshi, Sensei Webb has been honored with the task of preserving the traditions of goju ryu here in the States.
During youth and adult classes, Webb and his team of instructors first teach the martial art's more aggressive tactics, referred to as "go". These include blocks, punches, and kicks. The instructors then teach the equally important soft aspect of their art, known as "ju" tactics, which incorporate breathing and other fluid movements. Through these lessons, the Martial Arts Institute is also giving their students the skills for further self-improvement and discipline.
