Mezza Middle Eastern Cuisine

Lebanon-born Vivian Semaan spent countless days of her childhood watching her mother and grandmother chop, braise, and bake. Over time, she absorbed the flavors and techniques of her native culture's cuisine. In 1980, Semaan and her family had to leave from Beirut to the United States. As the years passed in their new home, she began to use cooking as a way of keeping Lebanon close to her heart.

Today, Semaan crafts Lebanese cuisine at Mezza Middle Eastern Cuisine, where she once again shares the kitchen with her mother. The two women draw on a wealth of memories as they prepare authentic appetizers, shawarma tucked inside freshly baked pita bread, and savory Lebanese-style pies that are sure to delight anyone lucky enough to be pied in the face. The vegetarian and vegan menu offers creative entrées such as pumpkin kibbeh, and the dessert selection promises treats such as flan-like mouhalabieh. And although the roots of these dishes lie in the Middle East, their ingredients are locally sourced from the Portland area.

Customer Reviews

It was a lot of food! That made it excellent value, as well as excellent quality. Thanks for the coupon - we would never have found the restaurant without it.

I got the combo appetizer plate; all good, though the baba ghanouj was the strangest version I've ever seen. Pita is homemade for each order. For an entree, I had the kebab trio; the kafta kebab was easily the best version I've ever had of that delicacy. This was also the first time I've had toum, the Lebanese garlic pasta/sauce, and it was awesome! Service was personal and prompt. Great lunch!

Good food. The Pita bread is delicious and they bring it to you warm from the oven. It can get crowded, but the service is friendly.
