London-born owner and liquorsmith Lucy Brennan, who Susan Brennan of Food & Wine magazine called "one of Portland's top mixologists," leads her staff at Mint and the adjacent 820 as they please diners' palates with innovative bites and sips. The drink menu includes such signature cocktails as Lucy's avocado daiquiri ($9) with light and gold rums, and the Aniversario Manhattan ($10), which boasts a potent Venezuelan rum that, much like a Parisian time capsule, was aged for eight years in french oak. Back in the kitchen, chef Brian McElmeel helps create a food menu, enlisting local and organic ingredients as often as he can capture them. The crab cakes ($16) slather taste buds with the flavor of basil-caper remoulade, and the roasted chicken ($21) arrives with cornmeal spaetzle and roasted vegetables in a sage cream sauce.

Located within the historic Frederick Torgler Building, Mint can fit as many as 40 diners or 12 circus strongmen amid an intimately lit decor that features walls of exposed brick and high-backed booths. At 820 an 18-foot bar gathers lollipop-rimmed martini glasses on its journey through the room's center, and the patio remains open during the spring and summer.

Seeking a home for her one-of-a-kind mixed drinks—including lollipop-rimmed martinis—nationally recognized mixologist Lucy opened Mint restaurant in the spring of 2001. Her acclaimed cocktails’ popularity grew so quickly that in 2003, she opened an adjacent lounge where patrons could focus on drinks such as avocado daiquiris and jalapeño-and-pineapple margaritas. Along with its selection of 40 signature cocktails, the bistro has been luring patrons in with chef Brian McElmeel’s Pan-American-style dishes, which are composed predominantly of local and organic ingredients and influences from the Pacific Northwest, Mediterranean, and Latin America.
