A Chat with Open Shakespeare!
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Open Shakespeare! is the first Shakespeare-specific youth program in the Rochester area. Run by the Rochester Community Players (RCP), this program is backed by decades of local Shakespeare expertise.
What is the experience customers can expect?
This program is not about sitting in a circle and reading Shakespeare. Our goal is to bring the Bard alive for our participants. They will not only explore different ways to speak and move, but will also engage in theatrical crafts (costume design, prop construction, etc).
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Open Shakespeare! firmly believes that Shakespeare is for everybody. This has been the driving force behind the Shakespeare Players wing of the RCP, and with this program, we aim to make the Bard accessible for younger Rochesterians.
What do you love most about your job?
That’s the best part. We all love different things. Maria thrives on breathwork and movement, and how those physical aspects change a scene. Scott is a total word-nerd, and loves nothing more than playing with the words to create something new. No matter what your child’s interest, we have that!
