This Groupon was a bit deceiving. Instead of receiving a $25 credit to be used anytime as was expected, I received 5 $5 credits that had to be used in $5 increments. My order totaled $3.89 but the attendant redeemed a full $5 of my $25. This was not how it was done in the past with other Shave It Groupons so I felt a little deceived. The employee didn't tell me this until I had already ordered. Next time, please be clearer in the terms of the Groupon just so we know what to expect. I would not have been upset if I had been told that I needed to redeem my Groupon in $5 increments ahead of time.

What You'll Get

Like butter sculptures, frozen desserts are quick to melt, fun to create with family, and best stored in the human mouth. Enjoy icy symbiosis with today’s Groupon to Shave It, valid at locations in Thousand Oaks and Norwalk. Choose between the following options:

  • For $5, you get $10 worth of flavored shaved ice and frozen treats.
  • For $10, you get $25 worth of flavored shaved ice and frozen treats.<p>

Shave It melts down dessert seekers’ hardened shells and unleashes inner culinary chemists with a customizable menu of shaved, creamed, and caffeinated ice. The original Shave It, fluffier than its gritty snow-cone kin and packing half the calories and twice the vocabulary of frozen yogurt, begins as a powdery canvas of finely shaved ice, ready to be painted with the customer’s choice of punchy Hawaiian-made “flavas.” Tickle minimalist taste buds with a simple Shave It laced with coconut, root beer, or green-tea syrup ($3.09–$3.59), craft an edible pastiche with additional flavors ($0.59 each), or opt for an ice cream ($2.89–$3.89) adorned with sweet cream or sour sprinkles ($0.59 each). A line of pre-designed blends, such as the sour-cherry-lime Nintendo Crash ($4.38–$4.88) and the Tropical Swell combo of tri-fruit shaved ice and vanilla ice cream ($4.97–$5.47), guides indecisive appetites, and sugar-free syrups and coffee-saturated ices coddle waist-watchers and caffeine junkies alike.

Not content to simply place frozen treats in loving stomachs, Shave It donates a percentage of all its proceeds to the Foster a Miracle Foundation. The shop’s futuristic lighting, gleaming surfaces, and black-lit glass environs play up the natural coolness of shaved ice and give customers a chance to test-drive retirement fantasies of ice-cavern homesteading.

About Shave It

It started as a simple idea shared by two moms. Karen Bain and Lisa Kudrika wanted to make their favorite dessert, shave ice, “hip and trendy,” according to 805 Living magazine. So when they opened Shave It they made sure to express their sense of style with chic interior design inspired by water, ice, and snow. Inside the shop, blue plexiglass hangs like icicles over steel tables and chairs. Flat-screen TVs broadcast shots of surfers and snowboarders, and a colorful floor changes design with every step.

Each cup of fluffy shave ice comes drenched with fruity “flavas”, such as mango, guava, or green tea, or a combination, such as root beer ice over vanilla ice cream. Beyond the storefront, Shave It also purveys the frozen concoctions on the go, thanks to a mobile truck that is often spotted at beaches and parks, unless its cloaking device is turned on. They also donate a percentage of their sales to their foster-child foundation, Foster a Miracle.

Beginning on December 1, 2017, Shave It is offering a new product: rolled ice cream. The ice cream is handmade on a frozen griddle as customers watch. Then the ice cream is rolled up along with mix-in ingredients of the customer's choosing, with options such as candy bars, peanut butter, and cookies. Rolled ice cream is made with all-natural ingredients.
