South Carolina Oyster Festival

For one day each November, the South Carolina Oyster Festival takes over the verdant lawns surrounding the historic Robert Mills House and Preston Mansion. Lawn chairs and blankets are spread under the magnolia trees, and the aromas of steamed and fried oysters fill the air. The annual outdoor festival is fueled by more than 10,000 pounds of fresh oysters, each prepared and jealously guarded by an array of chefsand their sea otter assistants. To entertain guests in-between bites, the fest houses a marketplace of arts and craft vendors, as well as an area dedicated to children's activities and inflatable attractions. Live music echoes from two stages throughout the day. Throughout the afternoon, guided tours of the two house museums are also available.

We were surprised that the local craft breweries were not represented with their own booths, but overall it was a good experience. Perfect weather and good venue. We really enjoyed Devon Allman and band! Could have used a few more tables and chairs out by food vendors. A few more craft exhibitors could be included.

I would have liked to see more local breweries, and latrines. Not necessarily in that order.
