About The Harvey Penick Golf Campus
Just like at many a famous golf course, each of the nine holes at Harvey Penick Golf Campus has a name. But whereas Augusta National's holes are named for trees, the holes at Harvey Penick are named for positive attributes the game of golf can instill in a young person. Hole No. 1, for example, is dubbed "Courtesy." while Hole No. 5 is "Integrity" and No. 9 is "Sportsmanship." This would simply be a cute footnote if the campus wasn't the home of the First Tee of Greater Austin, the local chapter of a nationwide program that combines mentoring with the character-enhancing principles of golf to impact the lives of local youth. All proceeds from golf and FootGolf stay on campus at The Harvey Penick Golf Campus, now celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2015.
In summer 2014, The Harvey Penick Golf Campus opened the first and only FootGolf course in Austin. FootGolf uses the basic rules and model of golf, with tee boxes, bunkers, hazards and pin flags. Holes range between 60 and 180 yards and are located directly on the facility's 9-hole PGA Tour designed golf course. The 18-hole FootGolf course was a perfect addition to the campus' many facilities, which also includes a three-hole short course, driving range, and practice putting/chipping greens.
