What You'll Get

The Issue: Children in Foster Care with Limited Resources

As of March 31, 2012, 12,435 Arizona children had entered the foster-care system as a result of abuse, neglect, or abandonment, according to data from the Arizona Department of Economic Security. Many of these children carried only the clothes they were wearing, bringing nothing personal or meaningful from their homes. They often lack adequate resources to purchase new clothing, toys, books, or personal items.

The Campaign: Supplying Foster Children with Birthday Gifts

If 50 people donate $15 to this Grassroots campaign, then West Valley Child Crisis Center can supply 25 children living in foster care with wrapped birthday presents. Each child will receive a new clothing item, toy, or book for his or her birthday as well as a personal card to mark the day with celebration. Receiving a gift on their birthday can help raise children's self-esteem and give them a happy memory to cherish. Each additional $30 raised will provide another child with a birthday present and card.

About West Valley Child Crisis Center

West Valley Child Crisis Center (WVCCC) rose from the need for shelter housing. A group of women's service organizations and the John F. Long Foundation formed opened residential homes in 1986 and 1988 for children who were victims of domestic violence or neglect. Today WVCCC helps to find foster care and adoptive homes for children who were removed from their homes by Child Protective Services. In addition, the organization's birth-parent program teaches pregnant women about their options and ability to place their children with loving families, and the community-outreach program raises awareness about child-welfare issues.
