In childhood, baseball usually follows a defined progression: first T-ball around age 5, then little league starting at age 9, then school and recreational leagues thereafter. Lil Sluggers, however, introduces the game to children aged 2–5. The training program doesn't expect toddlers and preschoolers to have the same acumen—fun is the ultimate goal, while physical fitness and skill development are bonuses. About six kids of the same age are grouped under one coach, who customizes the class to their level of motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and attention span. Easy, fun drills help improve their physicality and listening ability as they gradually gain more experience in throwing, fielding, hitting, and base running.
