Mama Teresa's Italian Restaurant, Milford

There is more to Italian cuisine than just pizza. Mama Teresa's may have originally opened as a small pizzeria in 1963, but the eatery spent the next several decades broadening its horizons. Changing names and locations wasn't enough—Mama Teresa's also filled its menu with an extensive selection of home-style Italian dishes.

The chefs now prepare lasagna, stuffed shells, and baked ziti, as well as veal marsala, chicken cacciatore, and eggplant parmigiana. They also stay true to their pizzeria roots, whipping up traditional and gluten-free pies layered with as many as 28 different toppings, including meatballs, shrimp, and roasted red peppers.

Plates fly out of the kitchen and into Mama Teresa's cozy dining room, which features diner-style booths with dark teal padding and potted plants adorning the ledges above the booths. The room's faux-plaster walls are hung with framed oil paintings and photographs of the first pizza hand-tossed into orbit.
