About Phloat
Some call it floating. Others refer to it as sensory-deprivation therapy. In Center City, however, it's simply Phloat. Here, guests are invited inside sensory-deprivation float tanks to experience the restorative service firsthand.
Before visiting Phloat, rookie floaters likely have a few questions they'd like answered.
What is sensory-deprivation floatation therapy?
It's kind of like a relaxing bath, but better. During these therapeutic sessions, clients lie in flotation tanks, each of which is filled with roughly 10 inches of water infused with 850 pounds of Epsom salts to ensure effortless floating. The water is also heated to the skin's temperature of 93.5 degrees, which is one of the many ways this therapy removes outside stimuli.
What should clients bring to floating sessions?
Floaters need only bring themselves and a desire to relax. Upon entering one of Phloat's treatment rooms, guests shower, then lie in a flotation tank. Once60- or 90-minute sensory-deprivation float sessions are complete, floaters can hop back in the shower to wash off the salt water before getting dressed and heading out the door.
What are the benefits of flotation therapy?
The act of floating combined with a lack of external stimuli lulls clients into a deeply meditative state, which promotes both introspection and healing. As a result, floating's benefits may include improved sleep, decreased pain and stress, and improved circulation and immune function.
