I ordered the $11.00 flatbread after the server's recommendation. I asked that there be no green peppers on it. All I got was excuses that they were alredy made up and could not be changed. I am angry with myself for still ordering it, but even more disgusted that for $11.00 they cound not be more accomodating. Also, the first flatbread was burned so the server told us it would take longer. Nothing was offered because of our inconvenience. I asked for free ice tea while we waited, but I believe a great restaurant would have handled things much more proactively- like not charging us or offering the free drinks right away. I always judge a restaurant by how mistakes are handled. Our group does not plan to return. Not at those prices.

Over priced. Told the meat would fall off the bone (Lamb Shank) and it didn't come close to falling off and it was tough. Told the waitress and she thanks us and did not satisfy us with empathy, a manager or the chef. Service was nice but not great. Wouldn't go back unless groupon had an even bigger discount. It just wasn't worth it. It is a wonderfully unique place but you've got to deliver the goods. You can't just serve ambiance.

Food was just okay. Not thrilled that we were charged 20% tip on the full amount ($600) for groupon ($260) the food and wine we ate was no way worth $600 the food was fair. I would probably not go back

The menu was small with very few entrees. Soup or salad was not offered with dinner, it was a separate item to order. The food was mediocre and overpriced for what we ordered for dinner. We also ordered Pumpkin Cheesecake for dessert and it had a very hard crust and not a lot of flavor. We were told the ice cream desserts were not available because of a problem with the freezer or cooler.

The food was amazing!!!! I wish the blue cheese stuffed ancient peppers wrapped in bacon were regularly on the menu!

The Groupon introduced us to this restaurant. The wonderful food & service brought us back the next week for lunch. This restaurant is now included in our rotation!

Our food was very good, but there were a few other aspects of our experience that left us not sure that we would return. When we arrived, a very nice bus person gave us water and bread plates. Our very nice server never offered any bread, though. Then, when we asked about the half price bottles of wine, we were told we could not take advantage of that, because we had a Groupon--even though we would be spending all of our Groupon on our food order. When we finally asked about the bread, we were told it was the last of it. This was before 7:00 p.m.

For a Chef's choice dinner that is supposed to attract return customers I thought the choices of pork (two versions) and watermelon were very cheap ingredients and the portions were very small. I am not inclined to return.

From Our Editors

Executive Chef Doug D’Avico uses simple artisan techniques to craft modern menus that change often, helping Bistro One West earn a spot on Chicago magazine's list of best new restaurants in Chicago. More specifically, it was recognized for best new dish in the May 2012 issue, an honor bestowed upon a lightly seared swordfish fillet. This is just one dish that exemplifies Chef D’Avico’s straightforward approach. Other dishes include chicken sourced from Miller Farms seasoned with lemon and rosemary, and house-made sweet-corn ice cream with blueberries and caramel sauce that magnetically attracts the spoons of strangers. Meals can be enhanced with a selection from the restaurant’s comprehensive wine list.

Bistro One West was carved from the frame of a vacant factory on the shore of the Fox River, lending it both an airy, loft-like feel and an atmosphere rich with the resonant echo of laborer's ditties. The dining room is awash in dark wood and exposed brick, and the patio sates eyes and ears alike with views of the meandering river and the music of live bands on Friday and Saturday evenings.
