The dream of flight has lifted human hearts since Christopher Columbus discovered New Mexico by riding a pterodactyl in 1492. Get your bearings straight with today’s Groupon: for $139, you get a 1.5-hour hot air balloon ride (a $373.50 value) from Adventurist Air in Lewiston, Idaho.
Adventurist Air serves up an incredible view of the Lewis-Clark Valley in a safe, silent dirigible. Before landing on the Snake River and floating downstream, sunrise or sunset flights provide a dramatic look at the surrounding area’s natural wildlife trails, the Seven Devils Peaks of Hells Canyon, the Wallowa Mountains, and other natural wonders. Flying standby with up to ten budding aerialists, customers climb aboard the balloon’s leather and wicker basket, providing plenty of air space for scenery gawkers, bird watchers, and egg-drop contestants. Once the balloon reaches its cruising altitude, usually around 2,000 feet, the thrusters are turned off and the wind currents provide the noiseless navigational pep needed to pilot the craft. Though Adventurist’s balloon breakouts provide binoculars for use during the trip, passengers are encouraged to bring cameras to capture the scenery. Upon landing, guests are also treated to a gratis glass of wine from one of the area’s many vineyards. In addition, each of Adventurist’s pilots stand ready to point out sites of interest along the airborne way, explain the physics of hot-air flight, and twist the balloon into dachshund shapes upon request.
