Courses begin with four hours of in-classroom instruction, during which a NRA-certified instructor covers the skills needed to obtain a State of Tennessee handgun-carry permit. Groups then qualify at range with 50 rounds of ammunition. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, eye protection, and ear protection, and they should bring a reliable handgun with 50 rounds of ammunition (all guns must pass a safety inspection).
The eight-hour course includes a break for lunch. Participants should bring lunch as they will not be permitted to leave facility until course completion.

Gordon Ray Holland, Jr., a US Army veteran and Direct Hit Shooting Academy's resident instructor, has spent more then 30 years working with firearms. Over those decades, Mr. Holland secured certifications from the State of Tennessee as well as the National Rifle Association. This expertise shines through at Direct Hit Shooting Academy, where he teaches basic pistol use, defensive shooting, and how to obtain conceal-carry permits. During these courses, Mr. Holland combines lecture-based sessions with hands-on instruction.
