A Chat with Divine Taste
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Brooklyn restaurants and artists showcased in the most fantastic way! Every month we choose different restaurants throughout Brooklyn and showcase items from their menus as a food tasting event, all while you get caught up in the rapture of our rhythmic local artists. All done the BK way!
What is one of your most popular offerings? How is it prepared?
Our Mini Wonton Cups stuffed with Calypso Steak, Mesclun Salad and Tomatoes topped with Cilantro Lime Creme Fraiche Sauce is an all time favorite! The wontons are baked to a delicate crisp and the Calypso steak has just enough heat to balance out the creamy cilantro lime creme fraiche sauce.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
I didn’t choose this…it chose me. My former career in higher education and events planning has brought me to this moment. Perfect blend of my love for good food and my business administrative experience has served me very well…pun intended :)
What do you love most about your job?
Cooking great food, teaching people, exposing them to really great food and seeing their reactions when they taste it! My clients are absolutely the BEST!!!
When Sharon Scarborough was 9, she would follow her mother into the kitchen and watch her cook. Although she was heeding her mother’s instructions, she was also building a passion for the culinary arts—an affinity bolstered by an exposure to diverse dishes from her Trinidadian and Aruban background. In a few short years, she was cooking meals for her entire family and the Borrowers who lived in the gutters.
After stints in public administration and marketing, she returned to her cooking roots, founding Divine Taste and setting up shop in her native New York City. Today, she heads the bustling catering company, creating mouthwatering menus steeped in Caribbean flavors for weddings, corporate events, and cocktail parties. And during interactive cooking classes, she takes over the role her mother had years ago. Nowadays, she's the one that others stand by and watch before joining in.
