Frank Meats Patty
Frank Meats Patty knows it has some big shoes to fill. The restaurant recently opened in the former site of Hot Doug's, the gourmet sausage hut known for its epic lines and rabid fan base. But despite adopting a few suspiciously familiar features—duck fat fries on the weekend, monthly game burgers that recall Hot Doug's beloved game sausages—the new eatery doesn't intend to stay in its predecessor's shadow for long, and there are good reasons to think it won't.
For starters, the new proprietors already have their fair share of dog-and-burger devotees thanks to another grill joint of theirs: Fatso's Last Stand. That restaurant's menu forms the basis of Frank Meats Patty's offerings, down to the Fatso burger, which comes in varieties such as an "Ooey Gooey" version stuffed with Vern's cheddar. Even Fatso's secret menu shows up at Frank Meats Patty, which brings items such as the shrimp po' boy out of hiding and into the regular lineup. The rest of the menu is straight out of a Chicago brochure: char dogs, Polish sausage, and fresh-cut cheese fries.
