A great hotel for families and couples My family and I just came back from staying one night at Hotel Indigo and we had a great experience. Here are the things we loved: 1. The pool. Truly a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ experience. We booked through the hotel’s website and it was very apparent that the pool had kids hours (9-1). We planned accordingly and enjoyed the pool for two hours on the day of check-out. It is tucked away in its own entrance in the lobby. You sign in, get your towel, and head on up! There was a bar and coffee drinks for purchase. Complimentary water was outside for everyone. Staff was great. Pool wasn’t crowded. There are a limited number of deck chairs but we got there right at opening and we could grab one of the unreserved ones (apparently you can reserve deck chairs, but I don’t know the process for this). The water was HEATED (not a hot tub but comfortably warm) and only 4 feet deep. It was great for my 5 and 7 year old boys. There is a shallow area that would also be great for babies. 2. Friendly staff. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. I called ahead before our visit and had several questions that the front desk person (Anaise) was very happy to answer. She gave us a complimentary later check-out (12PM) so we wouldn’t be rushed at the pool in the morning. 3. Nice room. We had two double beds and the beds were decently comfortable. We really liked the bathrooms. This room was designed with the user experience in mind. For example, this was the only hotel I've stayed at where there was enough plugs. Two plugs next to each side of the bed in addition to an alarm clock had space for two charging cables. Additionally, there was a flat ledge above the beds that you easily place your phone, kindle, water bottle, flash light, etc. 4. Convenient parking. We drove down to NYC and parked our car at the garage next door (not affiliated with the hotel). It was literally right next door and $37 for the 24 hour period. They got our car down in less than a minute after we checked out. 5. Location. There is a subway station right next to the hotel. We didn’t use the subway this trip but if we did it would have been very convenient. Also, the hotel is walking distance to several great restaurants and coffee shops (we loved Sweet Chick and Qahwah House). 6. Hotel food and drinks. We didn’t end up eating at the hotel restaurant, although it looked appealing (we didn’t think our kids would be quiet enough for a nicer restaurant), but I got a drink from the restaurant bar and took it to our rooms (since the lobby bar closed at 9PM). A few areas of improvement: 1. Mini-fridge. Our fridge was a bit wonky. It wasn’t cold enough when we got to the room so I turned it all the way up and it froze our half gallon of milk. Maybe user error? Either way, it would have been nice for the fridge to have been on when we got into the room. 2. Not enough snack options. The hotel has a few healthy snack options downstairs, but it would have been great if this was enchanted to hold cartons of milk, candy, etc. 3. Room service. I think there was room service but there was no menu and I did not know about the times. It would have been great for there to be a room service menu in the hotel room with the times listed. We definitely would have ordered room service if it was more clear. We ended up DoorDashing some food to the hotel lobby instead. Overall, a good value for the price. We would stay there again (but probably only when the pool opens up again since it is seasonal). Although we went with our kids, my husband and I would have enjoyed this as a couple. The clientele was very diverse - a few families with children or teenagers, couples, groups of friends, etc. This hotel meets a lot of different traveler needs with its offerings.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn: Ultratrendy Neighborhood Across the East River from Manhattan

In a game of word association, “Williamsburg” is likely to elicit a common response: “hipster.” The popular neighborhood, located opposite Manhattan’s Lower East Side, has become synonymous with young people and bohemian living. This relationship dates as far back as the 1980s, when the first artists and musicians began crossing the East River in search of cheaper rents. In recent years, Williamsburg has gentrified bigtime. And though many artists have now been priced out of the neighborhood, they’ve left behind a constellation of galleries, music venues, dive bars, and some of New York’s best restaurants.

Though the ultra trendy Williamsburg can feel like it’s a world away from Manhattan, in reality it’s quite close. Three subway lines, the Williamsburg Bridge, and even a water taxi provide easy access to the next borough over. For visual confirmation of Manhattan’s proximity, visit East River State Park, a 7-acre green space with sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline. Afterward, consider swinging by one of the many restaurants on Grand Street.

DO NOT STAY HERE Where do I begin. I called the hotel, spoke to a girl at the front desk who said she’d notify the manager about my situation, which said manager emailed me so I know she received my message. I let them know on Thursday afternoon that my flight from Barcelona was first delayed and then canceled, and we were booked for another flight the next evening. So for a 5-night hotel reservation, I missed the first night, and let them know that day that we’d be arriving at 3am the following evening. The manager emailed me to say she was trying to reach me to modify my reservation. I emailed back saying we’d be arriving at 3am that night. However without any notice, she canceled my entire reservation and rented the room to someone else, so I ended up arriving to the hotel in the middle of the night to a surprise that not only was my entire reservation canceled, but the hotel was sold out. I asked if there was anything they could do to accommodate us, considering how they handled the situation and that I am a platinum IHG member, however they said there were no options. At 4am. With no notice. Additionally, we sat in the lobby to determine our next steps, and the carpet was filled with chip crumbs, the couches were stained, the lobby bathrooms were filled with garbage on the floor - clearly no one had cleaned in ages. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT STAY HERE!

Extremely Disappointing I booked this hotel specifically for the pool and a late-night pool party that was supposed to take place at the Aliya Cocktail Den. I called four separate times before booking — including directly to Aliya Cocktail Den — and each time I was told the pool party would be happening on July 25th. When I arrived, I was told the event wasn’t happening at all. No explanation, no notice — just completely false information after multiple confirmations. To make matters worse, the female front desk staff were dismissive, cold, and unhelpful. I calmly expressed my frustration, but no one took accountability or even offered an apology. The hotel is beautiful, but the lack of communication and poor customer service made my stay disappointing. First impressions matter, and the front desk really set a negative tone.
