Days 1–3: Flight and Oslo

After an overnight flight from New York, you’ll land in Oslo on Day 2 and be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to spend as you please. In the evening, attend a briefing with your tour manager, who will describe the voyage ahead, and enjoy a welcome drink and dinner with your fellow travelers. The following day, you’ll take a tour of Oslo.

  • The Vigeland Park is the world’s largest sculpture park made by a single artist. You’ll see more than 200 of sculptor Gustav Vigeland’s works during your tour, including those in bronze, granite, and wrought iron.
  • Optional tour: For an extra fee, you can visit the Viking Ship Museum, which contains three Viking funeral ships dating back to the 9th century.

Day 4: Flam

On the morning of Day 4, you’ll visit a traditional Norwegian stave church, built out of wood in the Middle Ages and decorated with hand-carved art. Afterward, your group will board the Flam Railway for a journey past green pastures, snowy peaks, waterfalls, and glaciers.

  • In the press: Lonely Planet calls the Flam Railway “awe-inspiring.”
  • Photo op: The train moves at a leisurely pace, great for taking photos of the scenery.
  • Spend the night in Flam and enjoy dinner with the group at your hotel.

Day 5: Bergen

Next you’ll travel to Bergen, western Norway’s unofficial capital. Thanks to the town’s northern latitude, the summer sun shines well into the evening, adding daylight to the nightlife and casting a beautiful glow onto the mountains and fjords that envelop the city. In the winter, the city’s oceanfront setting keeps temperatures mild.

  • In the press: Frommer’s calls Bergen “Europe’s most underrated city.”
  • Stop along the way at a local farm, where you’ll see Norwegian horses and other livestock.
  • Bryggen district: Once a trading hub for all of Scandinavia, this harborfront neighborhood is lined with preserved medieval homes and seafood restaurants.
  • Pick up a souvenir: Before leaving, you’ll stop at Bergen’s beloved outdoor fish market.

Days 6–11: Cruise Through Norway’s Fjords

The second half of the tour takes you through Norway’s fjords and from one coastal town to another as you pass the nights on a cruise ship. How you spend your time in each spot is up to you. Below is a breakdown of the cities where you’ll dock.

  • Day 6: Admire the Art Nouveau architecture of Alesund, a town surrounded by the Sunnmore Alps.
  • Day 7: Visit Trondheim, Norway’s oldest city, and walk along the river Nidelva, which is lined with colorful buildings.
  • Day 8: The ship crosses the Arctic Circle and docks in Bodo and Svolvaer. This region is known as the “Land of the Midnight Sun” because the sun is up for 24 hours during the summer.
  • Day 9: Dock in Tromso, a hub for walrus hunting, logging, and sealing. You may see the Northern Lights up here.
  • Day 10: Spend the day in Honningsvåg, mainland Europe’s northernmost point, where you’ll have a farewell dinner with your tour group.
  • Day 11: You’ll disembark the cruise ship in Kirkenes, near the Russian border, and be driven to the airport for a flight back to Oslo.

Day 12: Return to the United States

After breakfast, you’ll be taken to Oslo Airport for your flight back to New York.
