On May 31, American Ice Theatre makes its Windy City debut with "Let's Dance," an all-ages celebration of artistic figure skating. Throughout the evening, the ice sets the stage for some of the sport's biggest stars, including Olympic bronze medalist Jason Brown, 2011 National Champion Ryan Bradley, and international ProSkater Ashley Clark. Rather than attaching marionette strings to their limbs, these world-class skaters follow choreographed dance routines engineered by award-winning members of the Young Artist Showcase (YAS). The evening's journey through musical genres doesn't discriminate, either, with a playlist that includes everything from classical compositions to contemporary tunes.
American Ice Theatre
American Ice Theatre was founded in San Francisco in 2003. Since then, the company has worked to further develop ice theatre, fusing the technical and compositional elements of dance and ensemble figure skating. Though leotard-wearing Zambonis have yet to crack the company's cast, AIT still dazzles crowds with acclaimed performances across the West Coast. Perhaps the most telling sign of AIT's growth is its expansion eastward, which includes multiple performances in Chicago and the launching of American Ice Theatre Utah in 2013.
