What You’ll Do
In the home of Jeanette Chawki, you’ll experience the zesty flavors of traditional Lebanese cuisine—but not before you savor a light snack and sip on cinnamon tea. Afterwards, you’ll join Jeanette in the kitchen to help her prepare a multi-course feast, which begins with a salad and continues with keebe, Lebanon’s national dish, or a vegetarian entree. At the end of the visit, you and the class will dine on the completed feast, along with date cookies enriched with mahlab—a spice derived from cherry seeds.
Craft a Traditional Lebanese Dinner
After sipping cinnamon tea, you’ll help prepare a multi-course feast including a salad, main entree, and date cookies for dessert
Meat or Vegetarian Main Entree
You’ll either prepare keebe—a bulgur shell stuffed with ground beef, pine nuts, onions, and Lebanese spices—or a vegetarian dish such as baba ghanouj
Savor Your Culinary Creations
At the end of the visit, you’ll dine on the meal you helped create with the class
At the age of 15, Jeanette lived in Zahle, Lebanon, a city famous for grapes that produce delicious wine. There, she immersed herself in the study of Lebanese cuisine, an area of interest that she has continued to explore through adulthood. She has honed her kitchen skills by regularly preparing family meals and working as a caterer for the past six years.
