After Hours Tour & Wine Reception
The families have gone, the volunteers have given their last school tour, and the doors of the Museum at Eldridge Street swing quietly closed—but there’s still plenty to see. In this intimate, after-hours tour, guides lead a behind-the-scenes tour through the history of this landmark, from its construction in 1887 to its restoration in the early 2000s. Don your best cocktail attire, step behind the velvet rope, and toast the past—or just chat about the architecture—with fellow guests.
Behind the Curtain
Without the distraction of other crowds, learn about the architecture, history, and spiritual significance of the first great synagogue built in America by Eastern European immigrants.
Study the Flourishes
Walk beneath the great chandeliers and snap photos of the stained-glass windows, including the new star-laden window created by artist Kiki Smith and architect Deborah Gans.
Raise a Glass
At the conclusion of the 90-minute experience, mingle in a wine reception with your fellow guests.
