Writer Pearl S. Buck blazed plenty of trails throughout her long, storied life. The Nobel laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner’s story comes to vivid life in PEARL, the evocative dance production making its world premiere at David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. The production tells the story of Buck’s devotion to Asian culture, and explores her role in closing the East-West divide that kept world cultures apart for so long. Featuring a cast of 34 Chinese and North American and Chinese dancers—including the internationally renowned Margie Gillis—the production tells Pearl’s story in five symbol-filled stages inspired by the works of Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Ruoxu. These stages come to life thanks to the deft choreography and direction of Daniel Ezralow.
