What You'll Do
Step into the studio of artist Sharon Bladholm and you're transported to a world that's a far cry from the industrial urban cityscape just outside. The light-flooded space bursts with more than 250 living plants, not to mention 25 years' worth of Sharon's botanically inspired art, from sculptures to stained glass to watercolors. After a tour of the studio, you'll try your hand at drawing and clay sculpting from preserved specimens Sharon has brought back from her expeditions to the Amazon.
Explore an Artist's Studio
See into the mind of an artist in Sharon's airy, plant-filled studio at the Albany Carroll Arts Building in East Garfield Park, where she's been creating sculptural works and watercolors for 25 years
Try Your Hand at Nature Drawing and Sculpture
Working from preserved Amazonian specimens, you'll draw fish, turtles, and piranha, and then sculpt them using self-hardening clay
Finish Your Artwork and Take It Home
You can choose to paint the clay or let it harden in its natural gray color. At the end of the day, you'll leave with your sketches and small sculptures.
Enjoy Light Refreshments
Sharon will provide guests with light snacks during the 2.5-hour class.
