The three veteran performers who make up The Main Thing keep their schedules packed, producing four original two-act comedies per year at The Joint’s intimate, 100-seat cabaret theater. Their current show, Little Rock and a Hard Place, follows the trials of a recently deceased man who, in order to qualify for admission to heaven, must return to Little Rock in 1995 and do something good for the city. The show was described by the Arkansas Times as “a wonderfully smart combination of musical comedy and local satire.”
Premiering September 7, Electile Dysfunction satirizes the impending election with the story of a family divided in their politics and choice of presidential candidate. Things begin to spiral out of control as the local news begins to follow the family around, turning them into Little Rock celebrities. The Main Thing’s shows are suitable for all ages.
Not content to host simply a coffee shop and bar, the owners of The Joint constructed a 100-seat cabaret theater that hosts shows by in-house improv comedy group The Main Thing, as well as other events. After stopping by to catch a classic film or an art-house puppet show, patrons can sip cappuccinos, quaff craft beers, or spill a flute of champagne onto the laptop they're using to soak up free WiFi.
