Groupon-Exclusive: The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Halloween brings The Rocky Horror Picture Show to a theater dripping with vines and red velvet that provides an ambiance perfectly suited to the kind of late-night B-movies the film spoofs. As archetypal pair of squares Brad and Janet approach the castle of the fabulous Dr. Frank-N-Furter and meet his minions—including decrepit butler Riff Raff; patched-together golden boy Rocky; and, played by Meat Loaf, rock-and-roller Eddie—a shadow cast of actors clothed in lingerie gyrate in front of the screen. In the audience, a decades-long tradition of crowd participation carries on as guests are encouraged to participate in a group "Time Warp" dance, shine flashlights during the song "Over at the Frankenstein Place," and pop balloons if their dates fall asleep.
The Music Box Theatre
An ornate relic of Chicago's 1920s movie houses, The Music Box Theatre floods its screens with a rotating lineup of cult classics and the latest indie and foreign art films. Occasionally punctuated by live organ music, the main auditorium evokes an Italian courtyard beneath a cloudy midnight sky. The theater's original manager, Whitey, is said to haunt its aisles, watching over his legacy and hoping to finally catch Rocky's ending.
