The Three Musketeers
Based on the classic adventure tale by Alexandre Dumas, The Three Musketeers tells the story of the gallant d'Artagnan and the titular trio of swashbuckling heroes. Heading to Paris in search of adventure, the protagonist meets each of the musketeers in turn, hotheadedly challenging them to duels before all four find themselves enmeshed in a conspiracy involving the sinister Cardinal Richelieu and Countess de Winter. Ken Ludgwig's script leavens the danger with zippy humor and the addition of Sabine, d'Artagnan's tomboyish sister who also gets entangled in the musketeer's adventures. Winning praise from the Guardian for "distilling [the story's] energy and strengthening its timeless appeal," the script delights audiences with courtly intrigue, dazzling sword fights, and a never-explained dearth of muskets.
Theater should be accessible for all. That's the belief espoused by UpStage Theatre, a non-profit, volunteer-run company that welcomes everyone from experienced attendees to newcomers who still expect Godot to show up. Each season places an emphasis on works that are as professional in their staging as they are family-friendly in their content. To that end, UpStage produces children's plays—which have included Alice in Wonderland and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown—alongside all-ages classics such as On Golden Pond and Blithe Spirit.
