The Issue: Working Families Experience Hunger
According to data from Feeding America, one in six people experience hunger on a regular basis in the United States, and 5.6 million households accessed emergency-food programs in 2010. As many as 9.6% of American families live below the poverty level while at least one family member works.
The Campaign: Prepare Food for Local Families
If this Grassroots campaign raises $400, then Great Harvest Food Pantry can fund 160 days worth of meals for a family of four, with donations matched up to $1,000 by Cornerstone Expediting. Each additional donation, in conjunction with the matching donation, will fund four days worth of meals for a family of four. Great Harvest Food Pantry gathers food from a variety of sources and uses it to provide meals across the Indianapolis region. The organization draws from donations of food and then purchases the rest at a discount from the Gleaners Food Bank. Volunteers compile an inventory of the food and distribute it to those who come to the pantry seeking produce and other groceries.
All donations will be matched up to a $1,000 total by Cornerstone Expediting. You can follow the progress of this and other Grassroots campaigns at the Groupon Grassroots website.

About Great Harvest Food Pantry
Great Harvest Food Pantry gathers and prepares food for more than 500 families from the Indianapolis area every month. The volunteer staff members stock an inventory of donated items and purchase additional food from a local food bank. When families arrive seeking food, they can sign in and move through the pantry with a volunteer, selecting the produce and grocery items they need. The volunteers help carry bags and boxes to clients' vehicles and see them off. Teams also conduct food drives and community giveaways around the city, and deliver food to people who cannot leave their homes or are living on the streets. Great Harvest Food Pantry does not turn away any families who request food, and serves people from a variety of economic and linguistic backgrounds.
