Certified by the NRA and the Massachusetts State Police, this 3.5-hour course teaches beginner shooters to safely handle, load, store, transport, and fire handguns. Instructors cover the essentials during a lecture-based session before participants head to the high-definition video simulator.
The program uses lasers to determine accuracy within a fraction of an inch as participants practice targeting and encounter virtual perpetrators projected onto a 70-inch high-definition screen. A replica Glock simulates the same feel and weight of a real firearm, and scenarios include the same ones police officers cover in their training. Afterward, participants take home a basic-firearms certificate and a shooter-safety certificate. Classes are held Tuesdays from 6:30–10 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Massachusetts Gun Safety
As an alternative to traditional ranges, Massachusetts Gun Safety relies on a high-definition training simulator similar to the ones used by police. The computerized system presents different targets and scenarios, and users fire laser-based weapons toward a 70-inch screen.
The training simulator uses laser-based firearms, which accurately mimic the look, feel, and recoil of handguns such as a .40-caliber Glock.

Though Massachusetts Gun Safety empowers its students to safely handle and operate firearms, you’ll never hear the sound of live gunfire within its locations in Woburn and Quincy. That’s because all target practice takes place in each of the the school’s virtual simulators, which complement the quizzes and lectures given by instructors. These experts delve into the basics of gun safety and state laws.
