$149 for a Lipo-Science Profile ($290 Value)

This preventive blood test screens for potential cardiac and diabetic problems a patient may have in the future. Essentially an advanced cholesterol analysis, the profile does this by measuring the number of low-density lipoprotein particles in a blood sample. The results are reviewed by a staff internist, and a staffer at Minor Emergency and Family Care Center provides health-care recommendations based on the results. A copy of the results is given to patients in case they wish to review them with their primary-care physician.

Patients can take this test seven days a week. A 12-hour fast prior to the test is highly recommended to improve the test's accuracy.

About Minor Emergency and Family Care Center

Led by Dr. Glenn McDermott, who founded Virginia Beach's first urgent-care center, the nurse practitioners and x-ray technicians at Minor Emergency and Family Care Center all work together to treat minor medical emergencies that need immediate attention, such as sprains and lacerations. They also tackle less urgent issues such as immunizations, school physicals, and screenings for diabetes and high cholesterol.
