About Open Minds Fusion Studio
As the brainchild of an aerialist and a yogini, Open Minds Fusion Studio is about as eclectic as a fitness studio gets. Described on its website as a place where "Bohemian theatrical flamboyance" meets "the serenity of being in a temple," it promotes flexibility in both body and mind. Its theatrical component no doubt comes from the aerial side of the business. In these classes, teachers and students flex their upper-body strength while maneuvering their way up and down long cuts of colorful fabric suspended from the ceiling. Elsewhere, yoga sessions cultivate a meditative calm, giving practitioners space to stretch their limbs and strengthen their core.
But beyond this basic division in the fitness studio between aerial acrobatics and yoga, in practice, many of its classes offer a hybrid of multiple disciplines. In its most popular class, for example, Buti Yoga, it mixes power yoga with tribal dance and polymetrics to create, in essence, a bootcamp for Buddha. Likewise, many of its aerial classes integrate yoga techniques, giving a core-busting practice a spiritually centering side.
