Kids Weightlifting helps kids become more explosive athletes and develop general athletic skills transferrable to all sports.

Newport Beach’s local Olympic Weightlifting facility, SoCal Weightlifting, has recently launched their youth weightlifting classes. For those unfamiliar with Olympic Weightlifting, the two lifts are the snatch and clean & jerk, and it is the most explosive sport in the world. If your child is looking to become faster, more powerful, and more explosive in their specific sport, Olympic Weightlifting is the best training they can do. It incorporates strength movements with coordination, flexibility, power, speed, agility and balance, everything required to become a top-level athlete. The classes run 6 days/week. Monday through Friday 4pm – 5pm and Saturday mornings at 9:30am. Our classes are for kids aged 7 to 12, maturity dependent. If they are older, we have options for teenagers looking to strength train as well.
Classes start with a fun warm-up incorporating running, jumping, and calisthenics. The athletes transition to weightlifting where they learn proper technique for things like squats, snatch balance, snatches, presses, push presses, and other barbell movements. The equipment is child specific, so if they are new, they will work with our super light equipment such as our 5 lb kids barbells, or if they're more comfortable, they may use our 15 lb barbell. Everything is catered to the child's abilities.
We believe in developing the entire child's athletic ability and these classes are focused on building the athlete's foundational skills rather than pushing heavy weights.

About Southern California Weightlifting Club
SoCal Weightlifting is a locally owned and operated Olympic Weightlifting gym. They are USA Weightlifting's Southern California Community Development Training Site. SoCal Weightlifting has a proven track record of developing youth and adults, producing over a dozen National Champions and placing two athletes on the USA National Team, competing internationally. At SoCal Weightlifting, strength training enthusiasts receive coaching on proper technique for the various strength movements, safely achieving their strength training goals. Coaches at SoCal Weightlifting work with kids as young as 7 and as old as 67, helping all ages achieve their fitness goals. Coaches strongly believe in the development of the athlete before strength gains and will only load an athlete with weight when their muscles and ligaments are ready, sometimes this can take months or years depending on the person. The facility is over 7000sq ft and has all the equipment necessary to develop high performance athletes.
