The kitchen crew at the Radler doesn't just cook. They pickle, they smoke, they cure, they ferment. These preparation techniques, commonly used throughout the meat-and-potatoes establishments quintessential to the Midwest, are just as ingrained in German kitchens. Once the folks behind the Radler noticed that link, they were inspired to open this Bavarian–style bier hall in Logan Square.
The menu here showcases all of these skills abundantly: pickled pears and beets are paired with grilled knockwurst and pork-loin schnitzel, and fermented hot peppers ignite seared-bockwurst sandwiches. What's more, the Radler fulfills its duty as a bier hall with a lengthy list of brews, many of which are imported from Germany and none of which are imported from the moon. Grandiose decor punctuates every meal here, thanks to custom-designed clocks modeled after the work of Bavarian clockmaker Gustav Becker.
