Each year, the autumnal equinox reminds farmers to collect crops and reset their calendars for when daylight-saving time ends. Partake in seasonal celebration with today's Groupon: for $35, you get one admission to Sunday Funday on September 25, from noon to 4 p.m. at Das Best Oktoberfest at National Harbor (a $45 value).
Tents at Das Best Oktoberfest enclose the sounds of boisterous melodies and the smells of savory schnitzel during an entertaining celebration of German culture. Admission surrounds guests with unlimited beer sampling and tattoo artists scribbling Wagner's complete Ring Cycle onto backs. Filling their souvenir tasting stein, palates can peruse the extensive beer menu of international ales, stouts, lagers, and wine to pair with plates of German cuisine. Live bands belt out traditional German drinking songs, polka dances, and contemporary tunes to encourage gents to twirl barmaids or spaghetti sculptures across the dance floor. Contests, such as a Best Beer Belly competition and Miss Oktoberfest, unfold beneath a tent so contestants can parade free of rain, heat, or falling weather balloons. In addition, the festival grants guest access to VIP washrooms and outfits them with a complimentary T-shirt as a keepsake.
Tysons Fall Harvest
It may be the inaugural year of Tysons Fall Harvest, but it already has the docket to rival any well-established fall festival. This family-friendly event will keep kids entertained with plenty of activities, from pony rides and petting zoos to a hay maze and pumpkin carving. Those who need to brush up on their carving skills can sit in on demonstrations from master pumpkin carvers or head to the craft corner to paint or just hug a gourd that escaped.
Even without kids in tow, adults will have plenty to do, including visiting the wine and beer garden for unlimited samples when they purchase a tasting glass, as well as shopping a marketplace with pumpkins and fall decor. They might even consider dropping by Rocknoceros's set at the live-music stage; they might be a kids' band, but their acclaim has landed them gigs at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and the Kennedy Center. A portion of the Harvest's proceeds will benefit the Spirit of Hope Children's Foundation.
