Major Disappointment at Howard Johnson by Wyndham Benton Harbor/St. Joseph We recently stayed at Howard Johnson by Wyndham Benton Harbor/St. Joseph and unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations. The advertised pool has been unusable for over 4 years, yet images of it remain prominently displayed online. This creates an inaccurate picture of the amenities available, not to mention the Unsanitary Conditions! I encountered a roach within the ice machine on the 3rd floor. Additionally, the state of the bathtub necessitated showering with footwear, raising sanitation concerns. The WIFI wasn't working in 30% of the building. The front desk staff was either horrible at their jobs or the hotel amenities have been so bad for so long that they are immune to guest complaints

Choose another hotel Hotel is in major need of a complete renovation. One night was barely tolerable. A lengthy stay is not recommended.

Do not stay here. Staff as toxic as the hotel. Arrived 45 minutes before 3 pm. Parking lot had 3 cars in it. They tried to get my wife to pay $20 to check in early, I walked in and suddenly there was no longer a $20 fee. They claimed to have a $30 “holding fee” in case we wrecked the room or something. I imagine that’s a way to get unsuspecting travelers to pay an additional fee, I will be checking my credit card statement to make sure they don’t get me! The guy who was in charge behind the desk was upset we arrived 45 minutes before check in. We had 3 rooms they checked us into all side by side. Went up to the rooms and walked in on guests that were already in one of the rooms. When we went to the desk to get a different room the boss said “see, this is why we don’t check people in before 3”. The people running it are obviously not familiar with American hotels and being allowed to check in early if rooms are cleaned. I suppose in India that’s the way they do things? Hotel is a wreck, construction material everywhere, laundry room a wreck, pool empty and looked terrible, drink vending machine not working and the food vending machine hasn’t been filled in months, wires literally coming out of one of the guest rooms into the hallway with cameras plugged into them. Looks like they are trying to buy some new furniture for the rooms but the rooms themselves are in bad shape. Room smelled like a smoke filled bar and the window shaker air conditioner rattled terribly. One of my family members refused to stay because they thought they might take bugs home with them. Find another hotel or you will be sorry too. These people don’t deserve to stay in business as another guest we ran into said it been “under construction” for a couple years and has always been a flea trap.
