Comfort Suites Benton Harbor - St. Joseph

Don’t book here I wish that I would have taken pictures. Beware bc the pictures they uploaded in the website must be from a different hotel. There is no whirlpool and the pool water is cold. The few times that we used the pool there were no towels available. Our bedroom was #212 and the bathroom light flickered when you turned it on. The bathroom door was hard to close when you needed to close it for privacy. The shower had new plaster in the ceiling that was not finished, I was afraid that it would fall on me while showering. I could go in and on but I just wanted to highlight a few before you book. I would think twice with this location. I’m also going to report this to their main headquarters. We left the final night bc it’s dumpy and couldn’t take it anymore.

Do NOT stay here Roaches, roaches, roaches! We had them in all 4 of our rooms on the 3rd floor. We also found one just outside the elevator on the 1st floor. So you KNOW they are everywhere else. The front desk was informed but did NOTHING to ensure something would be done about it. They didn't even sweep up the dead one outside the elevator. There is NO property manager, only a GM, who still has not reached out to me upon my request 2 days ago. Clearly guests are not a priority to this person. The lock on my window in my room was broken, rm 323, so the window opened all the way with no stopper and NO SCREEN. Extremely unsafe for anyone, especially children (I have a 5yo and a 7yo who thankfully didn't attempt to mess with the window). And the door to the pool does not stay closed. My son kept trying to go into the pool area when we were in the lobby. I feel it's a drowning hazard waiting to happen. Hot tub heater was broken and was colder than the pool. The ladder in the pool broke while we were there and my nephew stepped on the rusty screws in the pool. Breakfast area is unclean with food left out and cereal dispensers with old pieces of cereal all around them. Person who was attending breakfast was not using gloves when bringing out food to restock. Blood on the bathroom wall, dirty carpeting which turned my son's feet nearly black, dried soda or other liquid on the walls, mysterious brown color in the fridge, dirty sock from the previous guest left on the floor. The elevator did not have the proper safety check paperwork from the county and fire department in the elevator. The fact that it sounded like a freight train derailing makes me wonder if it's been maintained or inspected at all. Needless to say, this property is unsafe and unclean. I am very upset with the fact that the general manager has been made aware of everything, according to staff who say they have passed my concerns along to him. I was told the GM would be calling me Monday (July 29, 2024). It is now Tuesday and I still have not heard from him. I requested to speak with him on Sunday (July 28, 2024).

Krasl Art Fair Trip People are friendly there but the hotel is in need of significant maintenance. Our room had a broken curtain rod, broken smoke detector, and a ceiling light without a cover over it. The bed was comfortable though. Because of the Art Fair, the cost of the night was very expensive.

Gave us a dirty not cleaned room & rude staff We got to our room and could instantly see food all over the floor and then we looked at the beds they were clearly used, dirty bedding that they had just thrown back on. When asked for it to be fixed they would not give us a new room, instead the front desk came and checked the room (agreed it was dirty) but made us wait for housekeeping. We had to show house keeping the mess and stand with them as they cleaned. House keeping complained about us loudly, threw the pillows and sheets around in anger, half vacuumed the room and slammed the door and left. And then later we went to use the fridge and gross baggies of something yellow was left in the freezer…. Choose anywhere but here.

A bit disappointed I typically like Comfort Suites, overall the room was clean and nice. However, because we are traveling to Canada we were ready for a break to sit in the hot tub so we did check that they had one. We put our suits on only to find the hot tub not working. The water was cold, we turned it on and it didn’t work. Also, scum and debris floating on the water it was disgusting! Told the front desk and they just seemed totally unaware of a problem. In the bathroom, I went to reach for a Kleenex and the whole box was wet. I assume the previous visitor may have gotten it wet, however when I moved the container it was molding underneath. I think cleaning services should have spotted that. Breakfast room was nice and adequate.
